Where to begin?

As part of my #PGCE I was given the task of developing a creative presentation to share my journey as a teacher. Whilst creativity is not my forte, I refused to create a Powerpoint presentation and developing my own website was something I have been keen to do for quite some time. Initially I started to think about the basic content that I wanted to include, however as the weeks developed, as did my vision for my website. Today, I decided to create a blog. I wanted to document and share my journey about my PGCE and my future aspirations. But where to begin? If you have browsed the rest of my website you will hopefully see that Psychology has been my passion from an early age. My career as a teacher/facilitator to learning really developed after I realised the important role teachers have. I feel teachers and educational practitioners hold the key to our futures as individuals.

Before starting the PGCE, I started to think about the teachers that have inspired me. I found a general theme; they were all naturally enthusiastic with a personality that brought the subject to life. Whether this was research at Truro College or UWE, or watching my ex-colleagues teaching maths at King Charles primary school. This made me think about my personality and approach to managing my own classroom. I found that my #firststep was to really think about who I am! My beliefs in my abiity, the ideologies that underpin my practice and further more, my personality were important themes to question. Reflecting back now, what I realised was that I had the tools, I just needed to believe in myself but also, welcome the constructive criticism that was going to come my way. At this stage of my career I have found that reflecting on who I am and what I do underpins my planning, teaching and future.
