Teaching
My journey as a teacher began at Stithians Pre-School where I was a key worker trained in the EYFS curriculum. Soon, I developed a passion in working with early years so persued my Master in Child Development at Stirling University. Since then, I gained further experience in working with early years and primary ages at King Charles (KC) Primary School. My time at KC was valuable and gave me the drive to train as a teacher.
Why Post 16 and HE?
I felt the expereince I had gained going through Ofsted (progressing from special measures to outstanding in a year) gave me more substance as a teacher where I wanted to support others in entering the field of Psychology and working within educational settings. Below are the current courses I teach on and how my experiences have supported my teaching practice.

As one of my first courses that I was teaching, I was able to gain the skills in teaching FE. Coming from an early years background, I was able to communicate the skills I had gained to the students. Using this first hand experience has become valuable in my teaching where I can really support students in developing their motivation and understanding of the subject. I welcomed their enthusiastic and active approach to learning which remains to be one of the highlights of my week. Students challenge me to think of creative activities and from my Action Research with this group I have become aware that they are welcoming and embrace my teaching style and approach.

Teaching at HE level has really allowed me to use the knowledge I have gained to date; providing depth and synthesis to my lessons. Resources on ethical frameworks, theorists and models of practice have all been informed by my experience of working as a volunteer counsellor at NACOA and within pastoral support at the Primary School. I regularly teach this group with my mentor and it has pushed me into wanting to teach more HE in the future. This is due to the depth I can give in my teaching and the opportunities for facilitating discussions and using case studies. Conducting the marked students presentations enabled me to appreciate their respect for my judgment as a teacher and their lecturer.

Teaching the second year students on this course really elaborated on the previous knowledge gained in my Degree, Masters and work experience as a researcher and Health Care assistant. Students learning was complimented by sharing of experiences and scenarios.
These highly achieving students really pushed my knowledge of biology and physiology. Due to their level of knowledge, lessons were able to be more creative and adaptable to their interests. Through delivering timed assessments, as in A/Level, I was able to see the quick progress made in students.

AS/A Level
Psychology
Teaching this programme has been one of my highlights of my teaching career to date. My passion for Psychology came from my own studies at Truro College so to teach here is a privaledge. All of my experiences have informed my lessons where my style of teaching was really developed.
My time with these students was due to cover and I was quickly welcomed and students responded exceptionally well to the change. This was noted in a formal observation of my teaching which reinforced my confidence. The students like all the other groups were high achievers and had great potential making these group a joy to teach!

Teaching the third year students really developed my teaching. It has given me the ability to gain confidence in my knowledge as well as in the students authorship for their learning. Here, I am more of a facilitator where I can really make a difference to the future of the students by inspiring and motivating them to succeed in their future studies and careers.
Due to the fact that I was teaching my own Podule based on my Masters research and publication on humour and trust in children, this was a great opportunity. Students were confident and able and I recieved great feedback from students comments and in their productive contributions within the seminars.

Access
Access to Nursing: Psychology
(Level 3)
This was one of the most rewarding groups to teach. Due to the mature and positive nature of the group, the rapid pace of learning and exciting topics, my passion for teaching Access was quickly developed. Due to the nature of the course my experience in health underpinned my practice. I was further able to gain experience in IV within marking and getting used to the marking criteria within Access.
Micro-Teaches
As part of the formative assessments for the PGCE, we had to present to our peers. This was always an intimidating experience due to the exceptional ability of my colleagues. Below is a selection of my micro-teaches from my modules. Sadly, not all of my videos worked, but hopefully these will give you a brief insight into what the PGCE experience was like.
Module 1: Learning Teaching and Assessment
Module 2: Investigating Theories of Teaching and Learning.
Module 3: Wider Practice and Professional Development
